Back to the Future was released on July 3, 1985 by Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment. Robert Zemeckis directed the film. Both Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale wrote the story. In 1985, Back to the Future grossed $383 million. Back to the Future was on a budget for $19 million. Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox and Emmett “Doc” Brown became beloved characters to this day. Back to the Future part 2 was released in 1989 followed by Back to the Future part 3 in 1990. In October 2010, Back to Future celebrated its 25th anniversary.

During the release of the film in order to promote the Back to the Future movie, movie posters were hung up in movie theatres. Now these movie posters are collectible. There was also press kits given out to all critics at the premiere in each city before the its official release to the rest of the public. These are also collectible. Decades later there would be models, T-Shirts, and Toys made but the original items which are coveted the most by Back to the Future fans.
