The Blues Brothers were created originally as a Saturday Night Live Skit by Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi in 1976. Dan Ackroyd played Elwood Blues and John Belushi played Jake Blues. The Blues Brothers movie was released in 1980 and directed by John Landis. The movie grossed $57 million in the U.S. There was also a band that was formed by well renown musicians that would tour and released a CD called Briefcase Full of Blues. In 1982 John Belushi died of a heroin and cocaine overdose. Blues Brothers has over the years have gotten a cult following and still beloved today.
During the release of the film in order to promote the Blues Brothers movie, movie posters were hung up in movie theatres. Now these movie posters are collectible. The Blues Brothers movie posters were made in various sizes. One size was 18 X 24 and was found in a magazine. There was also press kits given out to all critics at the premiere in each city before the its official release to the rest of the public. These are also collectible. Decades later there would be models, T-Shirts, and Toys made but the original items which are coveted the most by Blues Brothers fans.
