Kristine M. Smith, the author DeForest Kelley launched as a teenager (who eventually became his Personal Assistant and caregiver at the end of his life), is a treasure trove of all things Kelley (and some things STAR TREK). I asked if she would be willing to share a small sampling of the one-of-a-kind treasures she owns. She was happy to engage even though she had to bring them out of a vault at an undisclosed location to do so. (Keeping treasures like these under lock and key is smart thinking, Kris!)
Most of what you see in these photos was written about in her book DeFOREST KELLEY A HARVEST OF MEMORIES: My Life and Times with a Remarkable Gentleman Actor. The title has been discontinued while stories that she had to leave out of the first edition (to make sure fans could LIFT it while reading it!) are being added back in. A new version, with a new title, will debut in 2016 during the 50th Anniversary of TOS.
In the meantime, we’re sure you’ll enjoy the photos of some of her personal treasures. You can find DeForest Kelley in the sweaters shown here by doing a search on “DeForest Kelley Images” in your favorite search engine. (Because we don’t have permission to post the images here, not knowing who owns the rights to them, the best we can do to let you see DeForest Kelley in these items is to ask you do your own search on “DeForest Kelley + Walk of Fame”, “DeForest Kelley at Star Trek conventions” or simply “DeForest Kelley.”
For those of you who have the book, you’ll be able to look up the times during which these items were given to Kris while visiting the Kelleys at their home or in the hospital at the end of his life.
